As I just sit by the window, with the fireplace roaring by my side, I gaze out at the light, peaceful snow falling all around. It's as if I'm a diarama in a snow-globe. As I look out at the world, the world is looking back in at me. I hear the faint sound of a ring. It's the doorbell...
Today, the Architect's Inn witnessed the union of Michael and Jessica. Two wonderful people are now husband and wife for the first time. They have their family around them, snapping pictures like they were two movie stars as they pose in a Victorian wingback chair. They will retire to their room (Belmont Room) for now but they will emerge, just as they have for the past 7 years, but this time bound by a ring.
This will leave tomorrow after celebrating the New Year in Newport, RI. The snow-clad streets and gas lamps on Bellevue Ave will be just a memory. Their plans are to meander down Ocean Drive to see the great mansions standing proud on their respective hills. Their columns of marble resembele the white blanket at their feet-now undisturbed until the spring. As they ride along the winding road, being careful not to slide into the New England stone walls, they can't help but wonder what's around the next curve. "There's Brenton Point!" she'll exclaim; a place they remember from the summer as being full with kites and explorers. "There is Castle Hill and the Swiss Village!" All are still and quiet on their adventure in the snow. Homeward bound they go into the west and over the Newport Bridge. The journey doesn't end in Newport...but it does return. Jessica, Michael and their new combined family now share a memory of a cherished moment at the Architect's Inn. Cometh back they will to create new memories of the season...new experiences to share...a new journey starting all over again.
